に、焦点を絞る。

a problem which Lucy was confronted のwasを不要とした。
Lucy confronted a problem（ルーシーは問題に直面した）というSVOの文から,
Oが前に飛び出したのであって、またwhichは省略した方が考えやすい。

『安定した収入が得られないことが、彼女が女優になることを考えたとき直面した問題だった。』
と考えたが、旺文社「全国大学入試問題正解」では、
a problem which Lucy was confrontedは
with which Lucy was confrontedが正しい
となっている。
②を考えたらしい。②は
The investigator confronted the defendant with the evidence.
取調官は被告に証拠を突きつけた。
の例文が標準らしい。
すると、
her thinking of becoming an actress confronted Lucy with a problem
（彼女が女優になることを考えることが、ルーシーをある問題に直面させた）
から
a problem with which Lucy was confronted という受動態になったと言うのだろう。
答え方は、下線部 which Lucy was confrontedを選択するだけなので
①②いずれの解釈でも正解となる。
