I have never kept a diary. I wish now that during the year that followed my first success as a dramtist I had done so, for I met then many persons of cosequence and it might have proved an interesting document.

劇作家としての私の成功に続く一年の間に＝劇作家として成功してから一年間
I had done so 私はそうしてしまった＝done soは「日記をつける」の完了
「今になってみると、劇作家として成功してからの一年間、日記をつけておけば良かったなあと思う。」

of cosequence:重要な
prove:（必須単語）～とわかる、～となる、～と判明する
「なぜなら、それからというもの、多くの重要人物たちと会ったからだ。だから、ひよっとしたらその日記はおもしろいドキュメントになっていたかもしれない。」
